                              International Plastic Bag Free Day

International Plastic Bag Free Day,  celebrated on July 3, is a global initiative that aims to eliminate the use of plastic bags. Plastic bags may seem like a grocery shopping convenience, but they are also a huge strain on the environment. It can take up to 500 years for plastic bags to disintegrate, so they make up a large portion of what stays in our landfills and pollutes our waterways.

With the intention of spreading awareness and cultivating a sense of collective responsibility towards our planet Earth, the students of St.Xavier’s High School primary wing enthusiastically celebrated the ‘International Plastic Bag Free Day’ on 3 July 2024.

Under the guidance of their teacher, the students of Grade 1 enthusiastically participated in making paper bags. The activity was designed to introduce the youngest students to sustainable practices in a fun and engaging way.
The Grade 2 students participated in a discussion during the Mass Assembly about the environmental impacts of plastic bags. The discussion covered topics such as the pollution caused by plastic waste, the dangers it poses to wildlife, and the benefits of using reusable bags.
The Grade 3 students made paper bags and wrote slogans and messages on them to spread awareness about the harmful effects of plastic bags.
The activities conducted on Plastic Free Bag Day successfully raised awareness among students about the environmental impact of plastic bags and the importance of using eco-friendly alternatives.
