International Nelson Mandela Day

International Nelson Mandela Day is a global call to bring the people around the world together, fight poverty, and promote peace. It is the birthday of Nelson Mandela who was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, statesman and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.
International Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated each year on July 18 to honour the the great legacy of Nelson Mandela and his values through community services and volunteering. Xaverians paid homage to this great leader and an incredibly selfless man who played a major role in rewriting the history of South Africa on his birthday. They were shown presentations and videos illustrating the life, struggles and achievements of Nelson Mandela. They were acquainted with the theme of this year Nelson Mandela Day, ‘One Hand Can Feed Another’ and inspired to become more responsible and perform noble deeds in their life. Students were also encouraged to share their experiences of doing acts of kindness in the session.
On this day, students took a pledge to change the world for the better and promised to take action and inspire change. It was indeed an enlightening and enriching session for all.
