‘Festivals are characterised by colour, gaiety, enthusiasm, prayers and rituals!’

Janmashtami is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Krishna, one of the most powerful and famous reincarnations of Lord Vishnu on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha or dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada according to the Hindu calendar.

St. Xavier’s High School, sector 81 celebrated Janmashtami with fervour and zeal virtually on 11th August 2020. A special assembly was conducted to seek Lord’s blessings. It was truly delightful to see little Xavierians dressed up as Lord Krishna and Radha with flutes, peacock feathers and matkas.

The spirit of festivity was enhanced with a presentation depicting life history of Lord Krishna. Students were enlightened about how the festival is celebrated with pomp and gaiety all over India. People keep the fast-whole day, temples are decorated beautifully dedicated to the life journey of Krishna.

On this auspicious occasion, young Xavierians also shared stories about birth of Lord Krishna, his childhood days, friendship with Sudama and significant role in Mahabharata. They also recited shlokas from the Bhagawad Gita. The melodious and devotional songs sung by students added solemnity to the occasion. Janmashtami celebration gave insight into life changing lessons and teachings of Lord Krishna and inspired everyone. Happy Krishna Janmashtami!
