Republic Day Special Assembly
“The appointed day has come - the day appointed
by destiny - and India stands forth again, after long slumber and struggle,
awake, vital, free and independent. The past clings on to us still in some
measure and we have to do much before we redeem the pledges we have so often
taken. Yet the turning point is past, and history begins anew for us, the
history which we shall live and act and others will write about.”
An excerpt from the ‘ Tryst with Destiny’
-Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
On 26 January 1950, the first
constitution of the India came into effect throughout the whole nation. This
date is celebrated in India as the Republic Day.
St. Xavier’s High School celebrated the 70th Republic Day with a festal
valour and enthusiasm on the chilly morning of Thursday, the 24th
January 2019. It was organised and presented by the bright young Xaverians of
Grade I under the benign and proficient
supervision of their teachers Mrs. Navkiran Puri and Mrs. Ruchi who amazed the
audience with their poise, elegance, panache and coordination at such a tender
age.
The audience included the parents
of the students who were ecstatic, their eyes brimming with an amalgamation of
feelings of pride, joy, anxiety and jubilance to envision their tiny tots
taking the first steps towards a journey of self-discovery and personality
development. The performances started with the well-enacted and captivating
skit depicting the theme “Unity in Diversity” which was an act par excellence
chiselling its way to carve a niche leaving a lasting imprint of veneration on
the hearts and minds of the audience. It took the audience on an emotional
roller-coaster that they experienced during the entire show. The skit was
followed by the bright Xaverians presenting the dance recital on a patriotic
song. The “Fashion Show” was another major attraction of the event with
students coming forward with their presentations highlighting the diverse
ethnic and cultural attires of the different states of India.
The event also served as an
initiative to imbibe in our students a feeling of empathy for the specially-
abled children as they gave a version of the silent instrumental Indian
National Anthem in the sign language rhythmically synchronised with the
patriotic tune.
The performance left the entire
audience teary eyed with rejuvenated national pride and patriotism.
The Honourable Headmistress Mrs. Sarika R Chopra graciously
took to the podium to enlighten the parents, students and staff on the
significance of these events in enhancing the potential of the students and reinstated
the resolve of the school to continue to promote Xaverians in all spheres of
scholastic as well as co-curricular development.
